Real But Not True, An Exploration Into Anatta & the Nature of Identity, Saturday August 5th 10am-4pm Against the Stream East Hollywood

  • Against the Stream 4300 Melrose Avenue Los Angeles, CA, 90029 United States (map)

The Buddha described freedom from the bondage of our disturbing emotions as a stance-less stance: “With the fading away of ignorance and the arising of true knowledge one no longer clings to sensual pleasures, no longer clings to views, no longer clings to rules and observances, no longer clings to the doctrine of self.” - the Cula-sihanada Sutta

This is known as the Buddha’s famous lion’s roar, and comes about through a process of ethics, meditation, and deep investigation into the nature of identity, the self, and the world. It proclaims that any and all of our experiences of body and mind can become the ground for our awakening, bringing greater efficacy in overcoming mental and emotional habits that cause us unnecessary suffering.

In this day-long retreat, we will explore the Buddhist path of liberation, and the teachings on Anatta (non-self) in an atmosphere of compassionate awareness. The program will provide meditation instruction, Dharma teachings, and time for Q&A/discussion. All are welcome.
