This four-week course (+1 retreat day) will focus on the Buddhist Lojong (mind training) practices on finding strength in adversity. Lojong is a rich tradition of Buddhist practices that became popularized in Tibet through the notable Buddhist masters Atisha Dipamkara, Langri Tangpa, and Chekawa Yeshe Dorje. Lojong is also regularly taught by modern Buddhist teachers such as His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama and Pema Chodron.
The Lojong teachings primarily focus on how to transform obstacles and adversity into the path of awakening through recognizing that happiness and suffering depend on the mind. Rather than blaming our misfortune exclusively on external circumstances, we learn to develop flexibility within life’s challenges. These teachings also further point towards our deep interconnection with all beings, serving in the development of a more open and compassionate heart towards ourself and others.
Through a combination of experiential learning and meditation, this series will explore how to truly cultivate a happy mind in all circumstances. Along with weekly teachings and discussions, each class will include suggested readings and practice recommendations. At the end of the four-week series we will take a deep dive with a daylong retreat. This is an opportunity to further integrate and internally develop the principles covered over the course of this series.
