Walking the Bodhisattva Path of Compassion
The bodhisattva ideal — a life oriented toward the welfare of others — can feel impossibly lofty, like something for saints rather than someone with a job, a family, and an ordinary set of struggles. But it was never meant to stay an ideal.
Over six weeks we meet live on Zoom to walk the essential arc of The Thirty-Seven Practices of a Bodhisattva, a beloved Tibetan text written nearly seven hundred years ago for exactly this purpose: turning the path of compassion into something you actually do. Each hour includes a short guided practice, a teaching that stays close to experience, and open time for your questions. Between sessions you have the complete 12-week self-paced course to work through at your own pace — with the full set of videos, meditations, and readings.
The full course holds the verse-by-verse teaching. The live hour is where we practice it together and work with whatever comes up.

Course Outline:
Each live session covers a key movement of the path. The complete 12-week self-paced course holds the fuller verse-by-verse teaching.
Week 1: Intention and precious human life
We begin with the homage and the wish to awaken for the benefit of others, then turn to the preciousness and rarity of this human life—not as an abstract ideal, but as a vessel we can actually use. The live hour includes a short guided reflection on the value of this precious life and open time for questions about entering the path.Week 2: Renunciation as support for compassion
Renunciation is not withdrawal; it is growing clearer about the deeper layers of dissatisfaction and the habits that keep us circling. We look at how seeing the predicament more accurately can open care rather than close it. The session includes a guided practice on impermanence, followed by discussion.Week 3: Equanimity and beginning to exchange self and other
Relative bodhicitta rests on equanimity and a wider sense of connection. We explore how recognizing the shared predicament of beings supports the wish to awaken, and begin working with the attitude of exchanging self and other. The live hour includes a short equanimity practice and space for questions about relating to others without losing ourselves.Week 4: Tonglen and taking adversity on the path
Tonglen uses difficult emotional reactions and challenging relationships as the path itself. We look at how voluntarily taking on and offering can loosen the habit of contracting into the small self, without turning ourselves into a doormat or bypassing our own pain. The session includes a guided tonglen practice and open Q&A on working with real-life difficulty.Week 5: Emptiness as a support for the path
Emptiness is not nothingness; it is the unfindability of a solid, independent self or phenomena amid appearance. We explore how looking into the nature of experience can soften the root of clinging and open more space for compassion. The live hour includes a short meditation on emptiness, plus discussion.Week 6: Paramitas in daily life + integration and dedication
The six paramitas are ways of engaging the path in ordinary conduct—generosity, patience, ethical discipline, and the rest—while the wisdom of emptiness keeps the activity from solidifying. We close by reflecting on the three principal aspects of the path (renunciation, bodhicitta, and emptiness) and how to continue. The session includes a short practice on the paramitas, with open time for questions about integrating the material.
